Fashion Friday: Double Dressed Edition

Due to my lack of posts this week, I decided to double the Fashion Friday Best and Worst dressed list. There were so many red carpet events this week, it was the perfect time to do a double dressed edition. Enjoy!

Best:

Olivia Palermo attending the Valentino Exhibition in a floor length mesh black, blue and white dress paired with a black jacket. There is something so unique about this dress, something only Olivia could pull off. This is how you do mesh, the classy way.

Selena Gomez at the Unicef SnowFlake Ball gala wearing a gorgeous paneled Dolce & Gabbana beaded gown. The contouring of the beads give the added effect of curves, see it and weep Justin.

Emily Blunt at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in this cream cut out Calvin Klein Collection dress. If anyone knows how to do red carpet style, its Emily Blunt. She’s glowing in this dress, along with the blonde hair and simple gold necklace, this starlet looks angelic.

Lea Michelle in this cream Valentino dress at the IFP and Instyle 2013 celebration party. Classic elegance is the vibe I get from this look, something Lea Michelle never fails at doing. Bravo for this glee star.

The queen of street style, Miranda Kerr, out and about the streets of NYC in a light wash denim jacket and black flare mini skirt paired with brown ankle boots. This Victorias Secret model never fails to disappoint in the style department.

Allison Williams at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in this stunning Valentino nude high neck dress. I have been waiting for someone to wear this dress, its so beautiful and elegant, perfect for the red carpet.

The sartorially savvy Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton in this emerald Mulberry belted frock. Rockin’ her new 70’s inspired do, the duchess attended the official opening of the Natural History’s Museum Treasure Gallery in London.

Songstress Taylor Swift in an ivory Elie Saab dress at the ARIA awards in Australia. While this gown is perfectly lovely and elegant, Taylor’s red carpet stylings seem to be a bit repetitive. She needs to spice it up with some color and shorter silhouettes.

U.K. Pop singer Rita Ora at the 2012 British Fashion Awards i this aquamarine Vivienne Westwood gown. This absolutely stunning fish tail gown enhances her curves and complements her blonde locks.

Worst:

Singer Missy Higgins also at the ARIA awards in this odd printed Alexander Blak high low dress. This is a prime example of something that should definitely stay on the runway.

Oh Nicki Minaj, you never fail to give us fashion fodder. Your crazy psychedelic outfit for the ARIA awards has me thinking of a Lisa Frank nightmare. This is too much, even for you!

Model Agyness Deyn at the Gotham Independent Film Awards in this tailored brown suit. Her take on menswear I feel was a little too aggressive. Without the makeup, she could easily pass for a male. Instead, she should have let her hair down and tried a more feminine pair of shoes.

“Fashion Police” personality Kelly Osbourne at the LOVE Hangover Ball in this printed Jean Charles de Castelbaljac dress. There seems to be pavement running down the middle of this dress, which just leaves me confused and partially disgruntled as to why anyone would want this on their body. You were doing so well Kelly! Don’t revert to your old fashion crime ways!

Designer Dossier: Rodarte

It’s everyones favorite fashion forward sister duo: Rodarte. Self taught fashion designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy from Northern California are quite the pair. They both majored in English and Literature in college, with not a speck of fashion in their midst. Inspiration struck and suddenly they started small little projects in the comfort of their parents cottage in California, that all began to change.

Frothy chiffon and organza gowns made up the Rodarte sisters first collection in 2005. From the beginning, it rose to fame. Many successful collections later, the Mulleavy sisters won the 2008 CFDA Emerging Womenswear Designer Award, sending the native California ladies to the top of the industry. Celebrity supporters such as Kirsten Dunst, Kiera Knightley, Natalie Portman and Reese Witherspoon are only a few of the designers loyal customers. When the infamous dark ballet movie “Dark Swan” came out, Rodarte received praises for their intricate and elegant ballet costumes. The sisters explained they loved to draw inspiration from fairytale like scenarios, and dream like landscapes. These inspirations were often captured in their gowns.

The tables turned for the brand when the sisters decided they needed to give their work a new feel. Japanese horror movies and apocalyptic deconstruction dominated the new line. A different mood no doubt, but the influx of praise and success did not dim. These changes in the brand only proved that Rodarte was just as versatile as the prints used in the collections.

To this day, Rodarte is still a well loved and unique label. This unstoppable sister duo has left their mark on the fashion world with their imaginative dresses and vivid patterned silhouettes. “Rodarte” is not a name we will forget anytime soon.

Fashion Friday

I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving! And I hope you all had equally fabulous Black Friday bargains, if you decided to brave the chaos of the shopping scene last night. Although it was a short week, there was no shortage of debatable fashion. Which stars gave thanks for their stylists this holiday and which ones shouldn't have?

Best:
Mischa Barton, where have you been?! Arriving at the launch of her collaboration with Uunique cell phone accessories, Barton wore a fabulous metallic mixed print ensemble. Few celebrities could completely pull this complicated look off but she did flawlessly. I am beyond impressed with her mixing and matching abilities. Well done Mischa, welcome back!

Nope, its not a dream, Kim Kardashian is not wearing leather! Kanye's boo showed up to Miami City Hall with her sister Kourtney to receive the keys to the city (what..). Sporting a Sally LaPointe printed mini peplum with butterfly sleeves, Kim pleasantly surprised us with this fashion change up.

When I first saw this Damir Dona menswear inspired look on Rihanna,  I was skeptical. But after inspecting it for a few moments I realized how utterly fabulous it is. Only RiRi could pull this daring leather outfit off. I love how unique it is, and how it sets her style apart from any one else's. Round of applause, not only for this ensemble, but for the singers new album "Unapologetic."
Diane Kruger at at the Jaeger Le Coultre Boutique Opening in England in a classy Jason Wu navy jumpsuit. They key to wearing a jumpsuit is to accessorize and style it correctly. The red lip and classic hairstyle paired with the simple heels was a perfect combination. While one of her more simpler looks, it was far from boring.

Celine Dion at the 2012 BAMBI Awards in Germany. With 3 costume changes and 2 redcarpet looks, it only made sense to include both of them! Her first dress, a grey J.Mendel off the shoulder, was pretty elegant statement. Grey is often an underutilized color in gowns. After the show, award in hand, Dion appeared in a shimmering gold Elie Saab sleeve dress. Nothing to complain about here, a job well done.

Newly wed Jessica Biel attending the premiere of the new Hitchcock film in this black ruffled Gucci dress. Admittedly, it is not quite as stunning simply from the front, but the sexy open back and leg slit, it was a winner. A party in the back always makes for a good time.

Worst:
Oh no, looks like this Bieber breakup hit Selena Gomez hard. She's even dressing like her popstar ex in this skater boy outfit. NO SELENA! You're better than this! Put the boy clothes down and run to your nearest department store!

Three weeks in a row? This has to be some kind of record. A repeat offender on the worst dressed list, Kesha showed up to a radio show in NYC yesterday in this Miu Miu printed suit. Only certain stars can pull this off, and sadly, Kesha is not of of them. Especially with that hideous floral shirt and cheetah shoes. Sigh.
Is that the ghost of celebrities past?! Nope, its just Lindsay Lohan at the premiere of her new movie Liz and Dick. Making her first red carpet debut in ages, Lohan wore Donna Dashini dress with diamond shaped cutouts and beads...? While we get the vibe of Old Hollywood glamour, something just wasn't right.

Whoa.. Freaky Friday Flashback? Jamie Lee Curtis and her move daughter Lindsay Lohan on the Worst Dressed List together?! How beautiful! Or not, as this actress wore a skintight off the shoulder dress and knee high black boots. While Curtis looks great at her age, even if she was younger this look wouldn't be okay.

My Sketches

It's been a long 2 days here at my dad's cabin in South Carolina. Along with no wifi, I have been missing my blog! On the positive side I have been productive and sketched a few new outfits. Check them out below!

The AMA's Red Carpet Report

It was a packed house for the 2012 American Music Awards, and the stars never fail to supply us with something to talk about. From Nicki Minaj’s crazy neon dress to Taylor Swift’s short and sexy look, the carpet was full of head turning looks, good and bad.

Carrie Underwood in a sheer purple lace cap sleeved Abed Mahfouz gown. We don’t often see purple on the red carpet, let alone purple in this bright of a hue. Nice choice Mrs.Underwood, but perhaps you should have gown with a sleek up-do or messy pony instead of loose curls.
“No Doubt” lead singer Gwen Stefani in an oversized velvet embellished Balmain jacket, with leather leggings and a simple bra-let underneath. How boring for a Red Carpet event, seriously, if you’re making a comeback into the spotlight, you might wanna dress like it.
“Once Upon Time” star Jennifer Morrison in an embellished black wrap gown by Abed Mahouz. Paired with nude Louboutins and a thigh high leg slit, I absolutely love this look. Very red carpet worthy, combining sexy and elegant in one effortless look.
Starring alongside Jennifer Morrison in “Once Upon a Time,” Ginnifer Goodwin channeled a very retro vibe in this high neck Oscar de La Renta dress. This look is so different from what I’m used to seeing on the red carpet, and I adore it. From her signature pixie cut to her doll like makeup, she looks like utter perfection.
Jordin Sparks in this printed Etro net gown with sheer paneling.  This dress looked so much better on the runway, perhaps this look would be better suited for one of our IT girls that can pull of anything, like Blake Lively or Sarah Jessica Parker.

Christina Aguilera, is that you?! Tears of joy are flooding from the faces of her fans everywhere, as she donned this ómbre silk chiffon Pamela Roland halter dress. What a breath of fresh air to see this songstress looking like herself, and not a scary clown clone. Lets hope she continues down this more subdued and appropriate path.
“Red” singer Taylor Swift in a long sleeved gold beaded Zuhair Murad mini dress. One of her sexier looks, this songstress flashes us a view of her fabulous legs in some gold Jimmy Choos. Why I can’t say I’m surprised in her choice of dress, its nice to see a new length on her.
Nicki Minaj, deferring from her usual frightening ensembles in this citron strapless draped Monique Lhullier gown. It was a pleasant surprise to see our favorite female rapper in a dress, but her stylist obviously didn’t do her research or she would have realized that Julie Bowen wore this a mere 2 months ago at the 2012 Emmy’s. Whoopsies!
Ke$ha, rising from social oblivion in this pale pink doily. Yes, she’s gone from wearing garbage bags to doilies. Her attempt to look somewhat classy is trumped by the fact that there’s a dollar sign in her name. Sorry home girl, maybe next time. Digging the new hair though, looks like she showered!

Fashion Friday

From the CFDA Fashion Fund Awards, to the huge Twilight Breaking Dawn 2 premiere, this week was full of fabulous fashion. Of course, there's always the less fortunate. Lets take a look.

Best:
Selena Gomez in a Giambattista Vali lace peplum at the annual Glamour Women of the Year Awards in NYC. The plunging neckline paired with the knee length hemline combined sexy and elegant flawlessly. Looks like the Biebs is missin’ out.

Victorias Secret Model Miranda Kerr also attending the CFDA Fashion Fund Awards in a gorgeous coral Giulietta top and matching skirt. A refreshing pop of color, I wish more celebrities would take a this color leap.
Coca Rocha attending the CFDA Fashion Fund Awards in an abstract print Suno dress. Between the pop of the  orange lipstick and the gold belt, this look is unique and utterly chic. 4 for you Coca Rocha! ( Mean Girls terminology)
The Queen of the Catwalk, Kate Moss in a  gorgeous vintage gold Marc Jacobs gown at the launch of her new book. What can I say, she does no wrong.

Keira Knightley at the US premiere of her new film “Anna Karenina” in this stunning mint embroidered Erdem gown. Absolutely stunning and classically elegant, the mint and pop of blue embroidery add a stellar touch.
Kristen Stewart in a sheer champagne colored Zuhair Murad belted gown. While from the back you get a glimpse of her derrière, its hard to not give Kristen some props since she’s wearing actual heels and not some unfortunate converse.

Worst:

Elle Fanning supporting her older sister Dakota Fanning at the premiere of Breaking Dawn 2 wearing a complete Prada look. If you were wondering how Miucca could ever create those plastic see through sandals, so was I. Somethings should just stay on the runway. Like this entire look.

New mother Drew Barrymore took a night off baby duty and hit the town to attend the Glow Bio Store opening in California. While I love Drew, there is definitely something missing in this ensemble. Her take on mens wear with this Barbara Bui jacket seems to hang off her at unflattering angles. You almost got it Drew!

Christina Ricci in this... dress? This Richard Chai cutout dress is an attempt at high fashion but just ends up being highly unappealing.  The fact that was her choice to wear to a CFDA event makes me almost break out in hives.

Margherita Missoni in... Missoni. Yup this designer got worst dressed, in her own clothes. While these pieces individually aren’t bad, together, this mixing of prints was an ultimate fail. Here comes the hives again as this was at a CFDA event. *Sigh*
