Rihanna- A Fashion Designer?

Most of you know her as the "What's My Name" and "Diamonds" songstress, Barbados born beauty Rihanna has stepped into the fashion world. That's right, Rihanna's new line called "River Island" is set to debut during London Fashion Week, and hit stores this March. Rihanna explained the inspiration behind her line stems from street style of "ordinary people." Check out this video released early this week of a sneak peek of her line and some words from the designer/singer herself.

So what do you think of this singer turned designer? Is anyone eligible to be in fashion just because they are famous? I would love to hear people's thoughts on this, I have very mixed feelings on this subject. Being interested in fashion myself, it's kind of frustrating to see fashion be transformed into a popularity contest just because of someone's fame. I gotta admit though, Rihanna has some killer style.

The SAG Award's Red Carpet Report

For those of you who don't know, the SAG Awards (Screen Actor Guild Awards) is an awards ceremony for televised shows such as Modern Family, Homeland, Glee, 30 Rock etc; The stars brought the shine last night on the red carpet as TV's favorite sitcom stars and night time characters arrived. Below are some of the best dressed stars (in no particular order.)

Claire Danes in a custom Givenchy off the shoulder gown.
Jennifer Lawrence in deep blue Dior Haute Couture mermaid silhouette dress.

"Modern Family" actress Sarah Hyland in purple Dolce and Gabbana

"Glee" actress Naya Rivera in a risquè Donna Karan Atelier gown.

Sofia Vergara also in a Donna Karan Aterlier, donned this shimmering white gown.

Anne Hathaway worked a Giambattista Valli organza dress.

"Vampire Diaries" star Nina Dobrev was pretty in pink in her Elie Saab dress.

Tina Fey in Oscar de La Renta

Fashion Friday

Since I've been quite the slacker lately with my blog posts, this week's Fashion Friday will cover this week and part of last week. Enjoy!

Best:
Nicole Scherzinger gets leggy at the National Television Awards in Londonblack William Vintage 1968 Ossie Clark gown paired with a Chanel necklace.

Taylor Swift is that really you?! Yup it is,  Taylor takes the plunge in this Kaufman Franco dress at the 40 Principales Awards. So there is a more mature side to Americas sweetheart, hmmm.

Jennifer Lopez also rocked a Kaufman Franco dress this week, at the "Parker" premiere. I just hope I look like this at her age after 2 children.

Eva Longoria dons this white Vivienne Westwood gown as she hosts the Inaugural Latino Concert. When has politics ever looked this good?!

Emily Blunt rocked this black belted Alexander McQueen dress at London Critics Circle Awards. Never underestimate the power of a elegant yet simple black dress.

Diane Kruger looks adorable in this Chanel ensemble as she attended the Chanel Spring/Summer 2013 Haute-Couture Show. I would wear every aspect of this look, its the perfect Parisian outfit, so cute!

Worst:
AnnaLynne McCord at the Freshstep CatDance Film Festival braved the cold in this interesting ensemble. Granted the sweater could be super cute, but I'm so not diggin' the ugly patterned scarf and light wash denim.

Can someone tell me when overalls became fashionable? No? Alright then. Shailene Woodley hopped off her tractor and attended the Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah. But wait- it doesn't stop there  the actress was also spotted again the next day in the next unfortunate ensemble.

Oh look! Here she is again, this time in this Marni Coat. Turns out this coat just covers up the over all atrocity on the inside, but both are so bad as to deserve their own slot on the worst dressed list. Ouch.

Ice Loves Coco star, Coco, hit the red carpet at the Parker premiere in this traumatizing lycra dress. I'm not quite sure if its the pose she's rockin' or the dress that frightens me more, either way this is never okay.

Singer Rita Ora looks like a certified homeless woman as she carries her luggage in Paris France. But literally, like is that a garbage bag?

2 Terms, 2 Dresses

Michelle Obama's 2009 inauguration dress sent waves throughout the fashion world, as people buzzed about the hot new designer that had made the first lady's ravishing one shoulder white dress. Jason Wu became the name on everybody's lips. This weekend, the First Lady stayed true to Wu and donned another one of his designs, this time a shimmering red halter gown.

Which dress was your fave? Along with a her new do, Mrs. Obama wore some Jimmy Choo's and Cartier diamond bracelets. Thoughts?

Fashion Friday

With the People's Choice Awards and People's Critics Movie Awards, it was a jam packed week. It was tough to narrow it down, but let's see the list for this week!

Best:

For some this look is a little much. Personally, I think this is such a unique dress and Amanda Seyfried worked it. This royal blue dress is by Marios Schwab and was worn to the Skinny Girl Martini event in LA.
Emily Blunt channeled old Hollywood in this Miu Miu dress with a beaded neckline. With her new blonde do, doesn’t she look absolutely fabulous?
Anne Hathaway glowed in Oscar de La Renta at the Critics Choice Movie Awards last night as she hit the red carpet.
Kerry Washington at the premiere of “Django”  in this patterned bodice Rochas gown. This dress was so unique compared to that of Kerry’s usual red carpet choices,I was pleasantly surprised.
Amy Adams wore this gorgeous two tone Vionnet gown at the Critics Choice Movie Awards. The styling for this was flawless, between the hair, earrings and shoes,
Jennifer Lawrence in in Prabal Gurung also at the Critics Choice Movie Awards. This dress is the perfect combination of fierceness and elegance.
Worst:

Elle Fanning in this intricate floral towel. Well turns out thats one expensive towel. This Chanel dress was just not flattering, and the shoes did not help the situation. Elle you’re young and bright! Wear clothes that make you shine!

If this is Kim’s way of starting a new maternity  trend, she has miserably failed. This sheer black Dolce and Gabbana look was not a winner. Mother to Be’s should not be baring their bosoms' in public! Plus she’s at the stage in her pregnancy where she could easily be mistaken for fat, never a good thing. Sorry Kimmy.
Leslie Mann in this Honor pink confection at the Critic Movie Awards last night. In all honesty this dress is not that bad, it’s just an over load of pink. She reminds me of a pink sugar plum fairy.
Paris Hilton at the People’s Choice Awards in   a tacky, tropical like dress and neon blue heels. C’mon Paris what happened here? I though you were past your crazy psychedelic days?
Oh my. Penelope Cruz has lost it. What is this orange abomination? According to Penelope, an acceptable outfit for a movie premiere. Wrong-o. This is a fashion disaster.

People’s Choice Awards: Best Dressed

Last night the 39th annual People’s Choice Awards took place in Los Angeles. The People’s Choice Awards is an awards ceremony where people around the world vote for their favorite movie, actors, songs, genre, music videos etc; The red carpet was chalk full of A-listers so let’s see who stole the show.
The charming host of the show Kaley Cuoco donned this pretty frothy pink Christian Siriano dress and golden peep toes. Maybe a little prom-y but not a complete fashion miss.
Heidi Klum rocked this black and gold cut out Julien MacDonald gown and a slicked back up-do. This is admittedly not one of her best looks, perhaps Heidi should be venturing on to the more demure side of red carpet dressing.

People’s Choice Award maven Jennifer Aniston wore this pleated leather flair Dior dress and ankle strap heels. Simple to say the least, but none the less elegant.d caption

Naomi Watts wore this gorgeous black and gold Alexander McQueen halter dress as she hit the red carpet. While I’m not a fan of the hair style, I do love this dress, even if it does seem a little ill-fitting around her upper torso. Details aside, this is a stunning dress.

Greys Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo threw on this belted white Lanvin dress paired with a metallic gold box clutch. While this is a little on the less glam side, Ellen looks elegant and pretty.
What better way to leave an awards ceremony than with, well, an award?! That’s exactly what Emma Watson did with her “Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress” award in hand. Donning this interesting Peter Pilotto little number and strappy heels, it seemed Ms.Watson sure had a good night.
Who needs one award when you can have 2? Jennifer Lawrence exited the ceremony with 2 awards under her belt- “ Favorite Movie Actress” and “Favorite Face of Heroism.” In addition, her movie “The Hunger Games” was nominated and won in the Favorite Action Movie Category. Oh, and she’s also wearing this fabulous Valentino dress. ‘Nuff said?
America’s sweetest songstress Taylor Swift looked elegant and demure in this plunging Ralph Lauren gown. Paired with the pop of color turquoise earrings and sexy brown eye makeup, I think this is Taylor’s “better than revenge” tactic. Oh, and an award for “Favorite Country Music Artist” couldn't hurt too. Who’s crying now Harry Styles?
Julianne Hough sported her flirty new bob and a Tony Ward Couture dress with metallic pumps. Anyone else get a Vivienne Westwood vibe from this dress? I was a little surprised by this galactic like sequined dress because Julianne usually goes for the soft and sweet vibe. Way to branch out Ms.Hough.

Throw on your blinders ladies and gents. Lea Michele brought the shine with her hot pink Elie Saab beaded and lace mini dress. This was a little too much for me, the term “bubble gum princess” comes to mind when I think of this look. With that said, I do love her shoes though.

While the PCA’s are nice and fun, everyone knows the Golden Globes are going to be 2x the glitz and glamour. Who else can’t wait?! This Sunday is the date so look out for my blog post all about it on Monday! And don’t miss Fashion Friday’s post tomorrow!

The Do’s and Don’ts of Winter Coats

Who says you can’t bundle up and be cute doing it? Fashion isn’t all about sacrificing comfort for cute, you can look fabulous in a winter coat and stay warm at the same time. But be careful- you don’t want to end up looking like an oversized puffy marshmallow. Check out the do’s and dont’s of Winter Dressing. ( Pictures from Instyle.com)

Do Follow these Celebs examples on how to style and wear a coat:
  1. Keep it simple if the rest of your outfit speaks for itself
  2. Be careful with fur
  3. Don't clash colors!
  4. Make sure the coat fits you! No rolling up sleeves or tight armpits!
  5. Puffy Jackets are hard to work with in fashion, utilize them properly!
  6. Be careful with busy patterns, keep the rest of your outfit simple if your coat is the main focus.
